2015 Stonier Jimjoca Vineyard Pinot Noir
The two Pinot Noir blocks in Jimjoca are parallel north facing slopes. Both blocks were hand-picked in the 3rd week of March, with moderate yields of 4 tonnes/ha. The carefully de-stemmed fruit was given a week of cold soaking and fermented in small 2-tonne open fermenters with a mix of pump-overs and daily hand plunging. Nearly 15% of the blend was fermented separately as whole bunches. The ferments were pressed to French oak puncheons for 6 months maturation (14% new), prior to blending and another 3 months maturation in the same barrels. Bottled in February, 2016.
Upfront, this wine displays plenty of attractive lively red fruits, but the palate also has an assertive presence, with firm savoury tannins and an earthy brooding nature. A large, framed Pinot Noir that's becoming increasingly complex as it ages.
