2015 Stonier Reserve Chardonnay
Hand-picked on the 20th (KBS) and 24th (Gainsborough Park) March, each parcel of fruit was whole bunch pressed, with the resulting unclarified juice transferred to a mix of one year old (70%) and three year old (30%) French oak puncheons for fermentation. With the riper fruit flavours only 10% of the final blend was allowed to undergo the acid softening malo-lactic fermentation. After 7 months, selected barrels from both vineyards were blended and put back to the same barrels for a further 3 months, prior to bottling in February, 2016.
The 2015 vintage of this wine is showcased in its gripping palate with energy, lift and drive. Lemon sorbet flavours offer a nice delicate framework with an evolving juicy mid-palate. Puckering grapefruit-like acidity gives the palate focus and a long finish. The future is looking very bright for this wine.
