2019 KBS Vineyard Chardonnay
This 2019 vintage release will be the 19th single bottling of the KBS Vineyard Chardonnay, from a vineyard that is also the foundation for the Stonier Reserve Chardonnay. Planted in 1988 and located on a cool east facing slope above our winery at Merricks, the KBS Chardonnay grapes were hand-picked in several batches between March 3rd and March 5th. Each batch was whole bunch pressed, with the unclarified juice fermented and matured in a mix of French oak puncheons (33% new) for 8 months, with 20% of the barrels selected allowed to complete the acid softening malo-lactic fermentation. The consistent threads of character that appear in the KBS Vineyard Chardonnay each year always astound us and 2019 is no different. White roses with spicy lemon lead the way with seductive charm, whilst the palate, still tightly wound at this stage, reveals a nice direction with a building sweet middle and lovely lemon/lime sorbet lift towards the finish. Lovely line and length with subtle power once again!
