2019 Stonier Reserve Pinot Noir
The Stonier Reserve Pinot Noir is always a blend of our most distinctive vineyards, with the 2019 vintage a blend of the Windmill (48%), KBS (27%), Merron’s (17%) and Gainsborough Park (8%) vineyards. Averaging 4.2 tonnes/ha, each vineyard was hand-picked between March 9th and March 22nd and fermented separately in much the same way, except for the whole bunch component of the Windmill Vineyard (as described below). Pressed and matured in French oak puncheons (32% new) for almost 9 months, the wines were racked and blended in early January, with the final blend containing 40% of the whole bunch component.
The class of vineyards which make up this wine is very much on show in this 2019 release, with seductive cherry and raspberry fruit purity, together with hints of whole bunch lift and complexity. It can only be a Reserve blend, with a beautifully centred palate of fleshy red fruits, bound together with strong and persistent ripe tannins. It all feels very complete.
