2016 Stonier Chardonnay
The 2016 Stonier Chardonnay was fermented in a mix of French oak barriques, puncheons (10% new) and in tank (30%), with a total maturation period of nearly 10 months. Several batches from our coolest vineyards were allowed to undergo the acid-softening malo-lactic fermentation (approximately 30%), with the remaining portion withheld to preserve the lovely pure flavours of a very strong Chardonnay vintage.
This wine has a lively and driven palate, with a tight framework releasing subtle arrays of bright citrus fruits and firm white peach. Its hints of a creamy texture will build over time, but for the moment the energy and freshness so typical of a 2016 Chardonnay are at the forefront of the palate. Its long and persistent finish is an attribute Stonier always looks for when crafting Chardonnay.
